Marble Madness
For this year’s art show I have created numerous marbled vases, thrown on the wheel. Creating vases is satisfying to create, consistently going on the wheel to create pieces. The vases I created were tall thin pieces that would bring out the colors and textures when glazed. While walking around the art room I have always been drawn to seeing detailed pieces through glazes. When I was younger I used to love mixing all sorts of colors and seeing how it would turn out. The glazing technique I used was extremely fun to use on vases. I would use a foam bat wrapped in plastic to glaze my pieces. I would apply a white glaze and then a vibrant color to the bat, then would use a needle tool to combine the two colors into a marbled pattern. Creating these pieces helped me open my eyes through art, having new ideas when creating pieces on the wheel. The process I used to glaze these pieces was extremely satisfying and I will definitely look forward to that in the future.
